Diversified Agriculture and Irrigation in Southern Alberta

Southern Alberta is home to 625,000 hectares of irrigated land. Irrigation allows the farmers in the region to grow over 60 different crops in an area that also boasts a healthy livestock sector. This two-day tour will dive into irrigation, research, and crop production, including potatoes, sugar beets, grains, and oilseeds. It will also include a stop at a biogas production facility, as well as a feedlot and meat packing plant. The tour will be filled with local culinary experiences all set against a beautiful backdrop of crop and grasslands and the big sky of southern Alberta.

Beer and Barley in the Badlands

Join us for this exciting pre-tour of the famed Alberta Badlands where we will journey to Drumheller, AB home of the Royal Tyrell Museum. Our tour will start by visiting a 43,000-acre grain farm to find out how industrious farmers grow world-renowned grain under the difficult growing conditions associated with the Drumheller valley. We will then follow the grain-to-glass process with a stop at Valley Brewing, Drumheller’s own craft brewery. There we will find out how they use local grain to help produce their award-winning beers. Our final stop will be at the Royal Tyrell museum for a few hours of education and fun before heading back to Calgary.
