The incredible farm-to-fork journey of Sunterra

The incredible farm-to-fork journey of Sunterra - June 29, 2023

It all started on a family farm in 1970 where the Price family decided there was a better way to produce pigs. They imported British animals and started a breeding program focused on producing stock with superior genetics for a better, stronger hog industry.

From that beginning, Sunterra was born. Today, the family business includes meat processing and exports, grocery and food retail, catering and meal kit services, cooking classes, a charcuterie company (in partnership with another family) and, the latest venture, a year-round greenhouse operation that produces tomatoes and strawberries for local markets.

Sunterra’s transformation from small family farm to fully integrated food company holds lessons for us all about the pathway to diversification and building a business. The Sunterra story is as much about knowing how to think boldly, how to calculate risk, be collaborative and build strong partnerships as it is about embracing new technology and innovative production methods.

Follow the journey the Price family and Sunterra on this farm-to-fork tour. We begin the day at the family farm in the village of Acme. You’ll tour the new state-of-the-art greenhouse, visit the facility where Sunterra premium pork is turned into amazing ham and charcuterie products and have a Sunterra-prepared packed lunch. We then travel to Sunterra’s Keynote location in Calgary, which includes a beautiful grocery store and culinary classroom. We end the day with an amazing meal served in Sunterra’s lush MARKETbar restaurant
